The map of the Koppen climate zones. Nanjing is located in the heartland of lower Yangtze River region in China and it is in the Cfa (humid subtropical) climate zone (Map background source: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/60/World_Koppen_Classification_%28with_authors%29.svg/2000px-World_Koppen_Classification_%28with_authors%29.svg.png).
Cfa: Humid Subtropical Climate Zone characteristics
Cfa or Humid subtropical climate is characterized by relatively high temperatures and evenly precipitation throughout the year. This climate zone is found mostly on the eastern sides of the continents between 20° and 35° N and S latitude.
In summer, these regions are largely under the influence of moist, maritime airflow from the western side of the subtropical anticyclonic cells over low-latitude ocean waters. Temperatures are high; the warmest months generally average about 27 °C, with mean daily maxima from 30 °C to 38 °C and warm, oppressive nights. Summers are usually somewhat wetter than winters, with much of the rainfall coming from convectional thunderstorm activity; tropical cyclones also enhance warm-season rainfall in some regions. The coldest month is usually quite mild (5–12 °C), although frosts are not uncommon, and winter precipitation is derived primarily from frontal cyclones along the polar front (Source: Britannica, 2016)

Nanjing Climate Analysis
The diagram shows basic information about the climate of Nanjing. The winter months are relatively cold with temperatures below -5 degrees and as we can see with the need for thermal comfort through heating. During the summer period the temperatures rise to even 37 degrees during the midday but with high temperatures even during the night ( 17 degrees during June). (Diagram source: Ecotect)
Precipitation table
Average rainfall in Nanjing ,15 days.
The rain season in Nanjing occurs during the Summer and reaches a peak during August with more than 164 mm of water in average per month.During the Autumn and Winter season the rain declines to approximately 38mm during November, when dry occurs.
Diagram showing the prevailing winds in Nanjing. The prevailing winds are coming from the Southeast and East-north direction (165-345 degrees) and with a speed ranging from 10-20 km/h. Overall we can see that Nanjing has a low percentage of heavy winds (>40klm/h) blowing for less than 30 hours in average, from East , West and North directions (Diagram source: Ecotect).
